University of Saskatchewan Graduate Students’ Association

Graduate Student Commons (Emmanuel St. Chad Chapel)

The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) invites all graduate students to submit abstracts for its 2012 Speak Up for Change, Interdisciplinary Conference on March 7, 2012.

We are looking for presentations in any area that graduate students are working in at the University of Saskatchewan.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – deadline: February 10, 2012

REGISTER FOR CONFERENCE – deadline: February 20, 2012

Registration is free for Graduate Students.

Please use the following requirements when submitting your abstract:

Title

Authors: Last name, First name. First author listed should be the presenter. Contact information, including email address, of presenting author should be listed after last author. Please include the college affiliation of each presenter; degrees attained not necessary.

Abstract format: 150 – 200 word limit

College affiliation or program of study: Please include presentation topic or area of concentration.

Presentation method preferred: Specify poster or oral. Note that a limited number of poster spots are open. If there are more posters submitted than spots available, we will ask you to consider delivering an oral presentation.

Please submit your abstracts to the conference coordinator: Maily Huynh at gsa.2012conference@usask.ca. All abstracts will be reviewed by the GSA’s conference planning committee. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by e-mail on or before February 20, 2012.

Please note that poster and oral presenters must still register for the conference. Registration is free for graduate students and will be accepted via email to the conference coordinator (gsa.2012conference@usask.ca) by Monday, February 20, 2012.

Awards available for Canadians:Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program

Awards are offered to Canadian citizens pursuing studies/research at the Master’s or PhD level in subject areas related to China.

Awards available are for studies and research, for a combination of studies and language studies or for language studies only.

Awards are also available to Canadian faculty members pursuing research in subject areas related to China.

Scholarship Value

The award includes:

  • tuition fees;
  • basic living allowance;
  • on-campus accommodation;
  • medical insurance;
  • teaching and research materials *; and
  • transportation to and from the destination in China via the most cost-effective route through Beijing or Shanghai. Travel arrangements must be made by the scholarship administrator authorized by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. Meals and accommodation will be provided by the Chinese Ministry of Education during stopovers in Beijing/Shanghai en route to the final destination.

Scholarship Duration

The scholarship is for four to twelve months from the date of arrival in China.

The Chinese academic year starts in September and ends in early July, including a winter vacation of about three weeks in January or February.

Eligibility

Applicants:

  • must be Canadian citizens;
  • must be faculty members at Canadian universities or students who have a bachelor’s degree or are enrolled in a graduate program;
  • must be proficient in written and oral Chinese unless otherwise exempted by their host university in China; and
  • must undertake studies in an approved subject area in a Chinese university.
