Job Description: ​

1. Conversation Circles

Volunteers lead and participate in 90 minute conversational English practice groups.  Volunteers are required to be fluent in English or have a CLB 7+, they must be able to work without supervision, and be outgoing and friendly in order to encourage and engage language learners.  Topics and resources are provided, but volunteers need to think on the fly and adapt to the ever-changing needs of circle participants.

Shifts – flexible scheduling, volunteers make their own schedule within the structured program.  Shifts are 2 hours long and available Monday mornings, Tuesday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.  Locations are around the city, September – December program begins the week of Sept 12th.

2. Discover Canada

Volunteers lead an 8-week program to explore the history, geography, culture and politics of Canada.  The program beings Tuesday Sept 27th and runs every Tuesday evening until Nov 15th at the Cliff Wright library.  Volunteers are required to commit to the whole series and the program has the same requirements as a conversation circle volunteer.  This special series has a structures lesson plan with a variety of activities to complete each session, volunteers should be comfortable with the topic, search ‘Discover Canada Guide’ to find the pdf we’ll use as a base.
