Ratification provides groups with formal recognition by the GSA and helps connect graduate students through academic, professional, cultural, recreational, and community-building opportunities.
Ratified groups may be eligible to access GSA supports, participate in GSA initiatives, promote activities through GSA channels, and apply for funding opportunities where applicable.
Academic Councils
Academic Councils represent graduate students within a specific academic unit, program, department, school, or college. They provide a formal connection between graduate students and the GSA and may designate Councillors to represent their members at GSA Council.
Social Clubs
Social Clubs bring graduate students together around shared interests, identities, cultures, activities, or community goals. These groups help strengthen connections outside academic programs and contribute to a more welcoming and engaged graduate student community.
How to Get Ratified
Groups seeking recognition must complete the GSA ratification process and submit the required information and governing documents during the annual ratification period.
Requirements may differ between Academic Councils and Social Clubs. Groups should review the applicable ratification requirements before submitting their application.
Once approved, ratification remains subject to the GSA’s governing documents, policies, and annual requirements.
