New Parenting Supports at the GSA Commons

The breastfeeding-friendly GSA Commons now offers free temporary breast milk refrigeration and storage, as well as a baby and toddler changing table. Staff can help students access these services when they arrive.

A day on campus can involve moving between classes, research, teaching and work. For a student caring for a young child, finding suitable space and storage during that day matters. The GSA Commons is a breastfeeding-friendly space, and staff can direct students who would like privacy for breastfeeding to an appropriate area.

The Commons now also offers free temporary breast milk refrigeration and storage for students attending classes, conducting research, teaching or working on campus. For example, a student teaching in the morning and working in a lab during the afternoon can ask GSA staff about temporary storage rather than leaving campus between commitments. Please check in with a staff member on arrival so they can assist with the service.

A baby and toddler changing table is now available in the GSA Commons washroom. Together, these additions are practical steps toward making the Commons more welcoming to graduate student parents and caregivers. Students with questions about milk refrigeration can contact gsa.admn@usask.ca and/or gsa.fin@usask.ca.
