National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Our Responsibility Beyond September 30

The GSA honours residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and the children who never returned home. Reconciliation calls for learning and action beyond one day.

On September 30, 2026, the Graduate Students’ Association marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. We honour residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and remember the children who never returned home. Every child matters.

Across Saskatoon, events such as the Every Child Matters Pow Wow and Wanuskewin’s gathering creats opportunities to gather, remember and learn.

For the GSA, reconciliation cannot be something we acknowledge once a year and then set aside. It asks us to listen to Indigenous voices, examine what we have been taught, and act with care and accountability in our research, classrooms, relationships and governance.

We encourage graduate students to continue learning through USask’s Truth and Reconciliation resources and to carry that learning into the work we do throughout the year.

We wear orange in remembrance and in recognition of the responsibility that continues after September 30.
