Election Personal Statement
Hello, fellow graduate students, I greet you all
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." - Abraham Lincoln.
In the spirit of Lincoln's wisdom, I, David Ohene Amoako, humbly present myself as a candidate for the esteemed position of President of the Graduate Students Association. My journey through various leadership roles, from the corridors of education to the national stage, has been a testament to my dedication, diligence, and unwavering commitment to serving others.
Having served as Recording Secretary for the University of Saskatchewan and as the Organizing Secretary of the Graduate Students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, I have sharpened my organization, cooperation, and general leadership skills. (SRC) These experiences have equipped me to understand the diverse needs and challenges faced by students.
As the aspiring President, I am driven by a vision to make tangible and meaningful impacts on the lives of graduate students. My major goals and plans reflect this commitment:
Implementing a 3-Installment Payment Plan: Recognizing the financial strains many graduate students face, I aim to champion a payment plan that eases the burden by allowing payments in instalments. This initiative will provide peace of mind and stability, enabling students to focus on their studies without undue financial stress.
Advocating for Daycare Facilities: Acknowledging the unique challenges faced by nursing mothers, I will champion the establishment of daycare facilities. This initiative will allow nursing mothers to balance their academic pursuits with their parental responsibilities, ensuring they can complete their studies within a supportive environment.
Promoting Diversity and Inclusivity: Embracing our student body's rich cultural backgrounds, I envision innovative programs that foster inclusivity and socialization. By harnessing the power of diversity, we can create a vibrant and supportive community where every voice is heard and valued.
Finally, my candidacy is rooted in a deep-seated desire to serve and uplift our graduate student community. With your support, I am confident that we can realize a future where every student thrives together. I ask for your vote and trust in this endeavour.
