Graduate Students' Association

Election Personal Statement

I would be honored to serve as the President of GSA 2024-2025 and to represent the graduate student community on campus. While appreciating the essential services offered by the GSA such as the health and dental plan, U-pass, notary services, and needs based bursary, some ongoing and additional projects that I would like to address as President include: increasing awareness on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and supporting the decolonization, indigenization and sustainability initiatives taking place at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as provincially, nationally, and internationally. I am keen to lead and support initiatives to showcase how a student body can contribute to large societal changes through interdisciplinary teams developing new ideas and new projects across departments with the support of our university leaders. Through this experience we can grow personally and professionally to become the talented workforce that the world needs. Specifically, my candidacy is founded on two elements:

  1. Build on the success of GSA and U of S in building a strong and resilient community of graduate students and identify new and emerging opportunities for growth.
  2. Develop new projects and proposals with volunteer and paid positions in interdisciplinary collaborative teams for students’ personal and professional growth and effective networking with industry and government leaders.

I believe my experience of teaching, learning, leading and consulting in academia and international development makes me a qualified candidate. I am looking forward to connecting with you and other grad students across the campus and building amazing teams.
